Pakistan: World Worshippers attack police trying to stop Friday prayers in Karachi amid COVID-19 lockdown

Karachi, Pakistan: Worshippers clashed with security forces as they attempted to enforce a complete lockdown to prevent people congregating during Friday prayers in Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi in the wake of coronavirus outbreak in the country.

The incident took place at a mosque in Karachi’s Liaquatabad area when police were trying to stop people from attending Friday congregation prayers in view of lockdown imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19.

In a video of the incident, dozens of people can be seen chasing two police vehicles and pelting them with stones as an officer fired in the air to disperse the crowd.

Facing heavy stone-pelting, the police personnel fled from the spot in a bid to save their lives. They, however, later returned with a heavy contingent of police and controlled the situation in the area.

According to the local media reports, police have arrested four people including Imam of a local mosque for violating lockdown imposed by the government and inciting violence in Karachi. continued here
